Requisite when considering the Islamic Arab world

“The Arab world is a turbulent one where oligarchs control armies, where petro-dollars hold up a crumbling, antiquated system of thought. It is a world where issues of God, conspiracy and kingship and the notions of national and individual identity are up for grabs. All that is pure Shakespeare.”
Sulayman al-Bassam

“The modern mind is used to breaking things down and assigning to every effect some material cause . . . mistreatment or mistaken policy. The explanation of evil refuses this approach . . . Evil is not caused; it is a cause.”
Jas. W. Ceaser

Islam needs to learn, and the West needs to remember:

“Civilization is not inherited; it has to be learned and earned by each generation anew; if the transition should be interrupted for one century, civilization would die and we should be savage again.”
Will & Ariel Durant - The Lessons of History
