Thought on the present scene

I found myself in a rather sardonic mood today, precipitated by milieu in D.C., so I did a quick run thru my thousands of quotes and submit these for your consideration:

"Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters."
Albert Einstein

"Liberals claim they want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views."
William F. Buckley

"Conservatives find it hard to live up to their moral code; liberals find it hard to locate theirs."
James Marone

"One of those disturbing tendencies in academic life is that there is a desire on the part of many in the name of open-mindedness to fall into a kind of relativistic denialism in which all positions are equally legitimate, all positions must be respected, and compromise must be entered into no matter what the starting point or reasonableness of the two parties."
Lawrence Summers

"In the last two years our Babylon on the Potomac -- with its irrational and unconscionable saddling of our grandchildren with multi-trillion dollar debt (and its bizarre foreign policy of loathing our friends and ourselves, and loving our enemies) -- has vexed the public into a state of deep fear and anguish. However, Americans don't stay scared long; we quickly convert fear to anger and anger to action. And so, now, two years of national panic and fear are being returned to sender in Washington. Now it is the ruling elite who find their daytime thoughts fretful and their night time sleep fitful.
Tony Blankley

"Traditional [Islamic] society is organically incompatible with the first principal of law in modern liberal democracy, namely that the state wields the monopoly of violence. Sharia in principle cannot be adapted to the laws of modern democratic states, for it is founded on the deeply-ingrained notion that the family is the state in miniature and that the head of family may employ violent compulsion just as does the state."
Spengler
